Kessler’s credit management solutions is Australia’s leading debt sale advisor. We provide debt liquidation solutions to credit issuing organisations primarily in the Banking & Finance and Telecommunication sectors. We facilitate the debt sale process via our Kessler Panel of Purchasers enabling credit issuers (sellers) to make better informed decisions.

The current market dynamics reflect an industry where approximately $2B in face value debt is sold annually in Australia representing an investment value of approximately $200M. This represents approximately half of all available non-performing debt available for sale in these asset classes.

2. Ensure the Best Buyer is Selected for Debt
As debt portfolios become larger and debtors more diverse, the traditional ‘one size fits all’ solution does not always achieve the best outcome for sellers and buyers.

Kessler’s unique capabilities and understanding of the Australian market means that we are strongly positioned to deliver improvements for our clients via our Kessler Gateway.

The Kessler Gateway is a secure online web portal allowing credit issuers to securely upload portfolios of accounts for sale. Kessler is then able to segment and package up debt parcels matching portfolio with buyers with the necessary collections expertise and liquidity to purchase e.g. skip, prime, liquidation stock, etc. The Kessler Panel of Purchasers are vetted to the highest compliance, technical and financial standards to ensure not just brand but consumer protection is paramount.

1. Case Study – Australia’s first intermediated sale
Kessler were engaged by a major Australian Bank in Q3 2009 to perform a full service debt sale.

This was the first time this Bank had sold debt in the market and the first successful independently brokered deal in Australia. Our services included:

  • Strategy development via a two year program
  • Data analytics
  • Portfolio Valuation
  • Deal Structuring (segmentation of debt into sale tranches)
  • Bidder negotiation
  • Contract Negotiations and Execution

Through Kessler’s segmentation and sales strategy, we were able to extract significantly more value for our client (final consideration was >50% of the blended pricing received from the major debt purchasers in Cards & Loans market)

Importantly this represented value to the purchaser as they were able to identify, via the segmentation of the debt, the portfolio’s that matched their collections skill set.

2. Market Research
In the first half of 2010 Kessler in conjunction with the Institute of Mercantile Agents (IMA) engaged Jones Donald Strategy Partners to conduct independent research on the major debt sellers and debt buyers in the Australian market.
